Entry from: Montepulciano, Italy Entry Title: “Now it is off to Tuscany” Entry: “September 11 – Off to Tuscany After a short bus transfer into La Spezia we picked up our rental car and headed first to Greve for a visit at the Chianti harvest festival and then on to our bed & breakfast for the next week just outside Multipulciano in the heart of Tuscany. Fortunately our rental car company was only a few blocks from the autostrada entrance. So in five minutes we were off competing, and quite well I might add, with the Italian drivers. The Italian “interstate system” is infinitely more convenient than in the USA. Fuel, food, drink and anything else you might need are readily accessible without really exiting the highway. It is actually more like our interstate “rest areas” only these stops have everything you might need. The drive to Greve was uneventful with only one wrong turn that resulted in a five minute delay. Greve is a small town and it was packed but we found a parking spot. We had lunch at Nerbone in the Pizza Marzeotti where Lynda had made reservations months ago. The specialty is traditionally cooked Tuscan meats. I had the chicken stew which was not like any stew I have ever had before but very savory and tasty nonetheless.
