I found a great Osso buco recipe that calls for a whole bottle, but I don’t really want to spend that much on an ingredient(bottles are -0). Everyone says to just substitute any dry red, but I would like to match the characteristics of this particular wine as closely as possible. I am fairly knowledgeable about wine, but have never had Amarone, so I am not sure what to compare it to.

Please help! I am trying to make a special engagement dinner for my brother and his bride-to-be. I I have been waiting for an occasion to crack open a bottle of Silver Oak Napa and one of his favorite meals is Osso Buco. If all else fails, I guess I should sub a somewhat decent bottle of cab to compliment the Silver Oak….but I’d really like to know about Amarone.
